Initial Branding Concepts

May 20, 2009

I began working on some intial branding concepts for my personal identity. For some strange reason, my ideas have primarily focused on my newly shaved head. My first thought was to visualize the left and right sides of my brain through my skull to illustrate my logical approach to design and development. Most of those drawings seemed morbid (as I’m sure you could imagine). After a few generations of replacing the brain with everything from hashtags to HTML, I landed on the power button:

The power head is a very strong image; however, I feel it projects a more serious approach than I’m comfortable portraying. I would prefer that my image be more colorful, and easily adapted into any situation. This lead to the character concept who would ultimately act as a user guide through my website.  The first draft of this character concept is pretty straight forward. Maybe, a little TOO straight forward.

The next step I plan on taking is to pose the head — MY head — in a particular fashion, as to imply a specific intent. I have been thinking that a great salesman smile would really fit the bill. Then again, I am a straight-shooter with very little room for sweet talk. I need to think about the right impression my face makes, since the first impression is the most important.
